I Am No Longer "The New Guy"

Magandang Tanghali Brothers and Sisters,

Time is not the same in the MTC. Seriously, days feel like weeks, and weeks feel like days. We are insanely productive each day, and we get so much done. From waking up at 6:30am to going to bed at 10:30pm each night we are non-stop working. I sleep like a baby every night. This past week went in a blink of an eye, and wednesday a bunch of new missionaries came in, so I am no longer "the new guy" haha. Also, my companion, Elder Stacey, and I get along so well, because we are so similar. We work well together, and we enjoy doing the same things. We spend every open minute studying (free time doesn't exist in the MTC), get to classes early, go to the temple each week, workout daily, and so much more. We fill our time completely with good stuff.

Also, the language is coming along. Elder Stacey and I are constantly quizzing each other on vocab, and one of my teachers, Brother Beagley, has gotten me really excited about grammar. Never before have I enjoyed grammar, but I'm getting super excited as the language becomes easier each day. I can now create my own sentences, and although it is super difficult I can say basic things in Tagalog. For example, in a single week Elder Stacey and I have already taught 3 lessons in Tagalog to interested people, and although our Tagalog is a bit broken and very very slow, WE ARE DOING IT! The fact that we could successfully teach three lessons without an outline and properly conjugate verbs tells me that, without a doubt, the Lord is helping me learn and speak Tagalog. Although it takes a lot of work, he will not leave me to do his work on my own.
2 Nephi 3:8 - "And I will give unto him a commandment that he shall do none other work, save the work which I shall command him. And I will make him great in mine eyes; for he shall do my work."

As I do the Lord's work with diligence, he will make me "great." I know that the Lord is supporting me through this work, and he will continue to help me as I work hard.

Until next week! Ingat!

Sincerely Elder Hemmert
